Large conger eels have colonised the B-17's engine nacelles and fuselage openings, using the dark interior as permanent daytime refuge. They are among the largest bony fish encountered on deep Adriatic wrecks, with individuals exceeding 2 metres. Their presence reflects the undisturbed nature of the site — the depth and technical access requirements have kept the wreck largely free of fishing and spearfishing.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
