Conger eels can reach 3 metres and 65 kg and are a regular feature of Mediterranean caves and wrecks. They are nocturnal ambush predators, consuming fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans. During the day they rest deep in cave overhangs, and divers at Cala Morell regularly encounter individuals resting on the sandy floor near the cave's inner chamber.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
