Greater amberjack are seasonal hunters that sweep through Cleopatra Island reef on the moderate currents that run along the island's eastern face. They are fast, powerful pelagic predators and their sudden appearance from the blue water into the reef system is one of the site's signature moments. Individuals up to a metre in length are regularly reported, and the species' curious, direct approach to divers gives excellent close-range viewing.
