The deep arch bases and boulder piles at 20 to 28 metres shelter some impressively large congers, several individuals exceeding 1.5 metres. They are mostly sedentary during the day but occasionally emerge to investigate divers, providing close encounters. Their presence signals a well-developed rocky reef food web with abundant crustaceans and fish prey.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
