Greater amberjack are permanent residents of USS Tarpon, schooling in tight formations around the conning tower and stern gun. As apex predators in the mid-water column they regulate populations of smaller reef fish, and their bold curiosity means they frequently approach and escort divers throughout a dive. They can reach over 60 kg and live for more than 15 years, with the largest individuals found on deep offshore wrecks like this one.
