Oceanic manta rays pass through Ant Atoll's outer channels on their wider oceanic circuits, particularly during the months when plankton concentrations around the atoll are highest. Unlike the more predictable cleaning station visits at Kehpara, encounters at Ant Atoll are more opportunistic, with rays passing through at depth before circling back to investigate divers hovering near the channel wall. The combination of manta rays, dense shark schools, and pristine coral makes Ant Atoll an expedition-level dive that rewards the additional effort of the crossing from Pohnpei.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
