Chuuk Lagoon Inner Wrecks

The inner lagoon of Chuuk holds a second tier of remarkable WWII wrecks beyond the famous headline ships. The Sankisan Maru rests upright with its hold still loaded with trucks and munitions, Rio de Janeiro Maru sits nearly vertical on the seabed, a Betty bomber aircraft lies in the shallows at Eten Island, and the Hoki Maru offers superb night diving with bioluminescent plankton drawn to the coral-encrusted superstructure. Together these sites extend a Chuuk liveaboard itinerary with less-visited wrecks in excellent condition.
