Ribbon Reefs & Cod Hole
Australia · Oceania
The Ribbon Reefs stretch along the far northern outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef, capping off with the legendary Cod Hole — a cleaning station where giant potato cod the size of armchairs approach divers with total fearlessness. Dwarf minke whales visit June through August, making this one of the only places on Earth where snorkeling with wild minke whales is reliably possible. Visibility is exceptional, currents are manageable on most reefs, and the sheer coral diversity of these outer ribbon reefs represents the Great Barrier Reef at its most pristine.
