Valdés Peninsula
Argentina · Patagonia
One of Patagonia's most extraordinary marine environments, the Valdés Peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where southern right whales calve in sheltered gulfs, orcas use wave-washing to hunt sea lions on the beaches, and Magellanic penguins dive through kelp forests alongside sea lions. Cold, nutrient-rich upwellings from the South Atlantic make this one of the most productive and dramatic temperate marine ecosystems on the planet.
