Veracruz Reef System

Mexico · Veracruz

The Veracruz Reef System National Marine Park protects one of the most extensive coral reef complexes in the Gulf of Mexico, with 23 reefs spanning both inshore and offshore zones. Loggerhead and green turtles feed among the coral heads, Caribbean reef sharks patrol the outer walls, and dense schools of Atlantic creole wrasse shimmer in the currents. The wreck of the General Guadalupe Victoria, a 1930s Mexican naval vessel, sits in 20 meters and has become an artificial reef teeming with life. Warm Gulf waters keep conditions accessible year-round, though summer offers the clearest visibility.
