Schools of amberjack use the pinnacle as a navigational landmark and feeding station, circling the summit in loose formation and making periodic dashes into the surrounding blue to chase mackerel. They can reach 1.8 metres in length and are a dominant apex predator at this site. Their presence draws smaller reef fish into tighter sheltering aggregations on the gorgonian-covered flanks.
