Greater amberjack congregate around the exposed point of Punta del Faro from late spring through autumn, drawn by the current-driven upwellings that concentrate prey. They are fast, powerful hunters and their inquisitive nature means they sometimes approach divers closely before circling and departing. The site's proximity to open Ligurian Sea water makes it the most reliable spot in the Portofino area for encounters with large pelagic visitors.
