The greater amberjack is one of the Mediterranean's most powerful open-water predators, a fast-moving schooling fish that makes seasonal passes along exposed headlands and walls. Juveniles associate with floating debris and jellyfish; adults form loose hunting schools that ambush bream and sardine schools at reef edges. At Cap Morgiou, amberjack are most reliably seen between April and October when warmer surface waters bring baitfish inshore.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
